MISSION STATEMENT

The Animal Recovery Mission (ARM) is a nonprofit 501 C3 organization dedicated to raising awareness while fighting to stop illegal horse slaughter, shutdown of any and all illegal slaughter farms, Animal sacrifice farms, animal fighting farms and halting the round ups of the American wild Mustangs. EIN #30-0602348

AREAS OF CURRENT INVESTIGATIONS

Illegal Horse Slaughter

Since 2008 ARM has uncovered that illegal horse slaughter is not only taking place in international slaughter plants, but is also an issue in Miami, Florida and spreading to different areas of the United States. Even more disturbing is that not only are Miami’s well organized illegal farms slaughtering these horses for meat for human consumption, but also private lawless butchers. These butchers are breaking into barns to steal privately owned horses to butcher on site leaving the carcasses for the owners to discover the next morning! They are then selling the horse meat on the black market for $7-$40 a pound due to high demand. Do to ARM exposing this issue 11 men have been arrested for the crimes, 2 of them serving a total of 9 years in prison.

To some, horse meat is considered a luxury item. Many people in Miami are eating horse meat thinking it has healing powers for health issues. In fact, horse meat is known to cause cancer and birth defects due to the drugs that are given to American horses. Miami is the only area in the United States that a dead horse is much more valuable than a live horse!

ILLEGAL SLAUGHTER FARMS

Due to a breakdown of government in Miami/Dade County, Florida an industry of illegal slaughter houses have developed over the last 40 years. The torture farms (NORTH OF 200) are found in every rural area of the county, with a large concentration of these business found in what we call the “C-9 Basin” and “Area 97″. The areas are mainly wetlands and a buffer zone to the protected Florida Everglades. These farms are violating the following laws: Animal Cruelty, Slaughtering without a license, Slaughtering registered breeds (Horses), Operating a Business without a licenses, Food Safety, Sanitary Nuisance, Environmental codes, Zoning Codes, Building Codes, Neighborhood Compliance’s Codes, Land Squatting, Feeding Garbage to Animals Without a License,  Fighting animals illegally, Sacrificing of demestic pets and IRS Laws…. This is just for starters!!

Many of these properties are just 20 minutes from the glitz and glamor of South Beach. The farms are well run business advertising on street sides and catering to anyone with interest. The animals are living in filth and misery. They are many times beaten and given the least amount of respect. They are housed in cages that hardly fit their bodies, overcrowded pens or with no shelter at all. When fed, it’s with raw rotting garbage or the slaughtered carcass of a friend.

The animals are slaughtered in various medieval ways, from strangulation to beaten with sledge hammers, axes and burned alive with flamethrowers. Most animals are taken apart prior to death. As you read this, American horses (our pets) are being butchered in great numbers on a daily basis in these farms. this includes race horses. Farm owners have connections at Calder race track (owned by Church Hill Downs) among other thoroughbred tracks. Horses that are no longer able to perform are trucked to these Miami farms where they are abused, neglected and then slaughtered. Great way to pay our respects to them for their service!

Understand, it’s not just horses, but goats, chickens, sheep, birds, lamas, cows, rabbits and pigs. There are also puppy mills and kitty breading areas on the farms. Rusted out over crowed cages filled with neglected scared babies. If you saw it.. I assure you it would stay with you forever.  Most farms are not regulated by any one government agency. Yet officials all know of the issue.

Horse meat is the most profitable item at $7 to $40 lb.

People have asked..”It must be hard to catch the the slaughter farms killing animals”… Actually, it’s as easy as walking in, picking out a animal and paying a $15 kill fee!

Much of this meat is entering some US restaurants. Farm owners pick up leftovers and scraps that are put aside by bus boys to take as food for the animals. In return the farmers sell the eateries meat on the cheep! Garbage (Food scraps) are also being given to the farmers by officials controling the prison system in South Florida.

Environmentally, the properties are creating havoc on the areas. Blood is being collected in unlined pools, dumped in reservoirs and pored in ground wells. This is certainly having an effect on the areas ground water. The wetlands (Florida Everglades)where the  properties reside are being filled on a daily basis with dirt, land rock, tires, cement and  garbage to create dry build-able areas.  The buildings and everything on the properties are not permitted. The parcels should basically be swamp or field.

I’ve asked myself for over a year now “How does a violent lawless industry such as this stay active and untouched by government agencies for over 30 years.” Are payoffs involved, bribes or favors? Before ARM started this endeavor we were warned “political figures are protecting the farms”… “this is a warning”.  Kudo (ARM’s founder) put together an unofficial task-force made up of county and state agencies. Amongst them were: Miami Dade Police; Animal Services; Building Dept; Zoning Dept; Neighborhood Compliance Dept; South Florida SPCA; DERM; Florida Department of Agriculture (numerous divisions); Dade County Agriculture and so on! Days before an organized raid was to take place, one by one agencies started dropping out. The reasons given “Fear and safety” for government inspectors, too “political”. This was shocking to Kudo. It wasn’t until taking his evidence to the Florida State Attorney and CNN News that things finally starting changing and farms started closing.

To Date ARM and the State of Florida have closed over 80 Illegal slaughter farms, 18 cockfighting rings and dog fighting rings. There are over 150 left to close!!
This is the true “DARK SIDE” of Miami Dade and the State of Florida!!! Kudo and ARM are fighting these”Dark Farms” for a type of Redemption and Revenge for Freedom’s Flight his horse that he rescued from these lawless places.

All farms are controled by a large mafia in miami. They are well connected and are spred out like a hand through out the South Florida community. This industry is one of the largest animal cruelty cases in the history of the United States.

GOOD HORSE SLAUGHTER BILL

Do to the work of ARM ” The Good Horse Slaughter bill” was created in the State of

Senetor Victor Crist & Kudo

Florida. This law makes it a felony for any person to buy, sell, transport, kill a horse (even if it’s your own) or poses horse meat for human consumption. The penalties are minimum of a year in jail and a $3,500 fine. This is a ground breaking animal cruelty law in the United States. The Florida Senate and Governor set this into law on July 1, 2010.

THE AMERICAN WILD MUSTANG

ARM is currently investigating the Department of the Interior. This is the Department of the Federal Government currently rounding up our wild horses and borrows off of public lands. The BLM (a division of the Dept of the Interior) are over seeing these round ups and care for the animals. Helicopters (controlled by convicted horse killers) are chasing down the animals (many of them babies) up to 20 miles over jagged volcanic rock and chased into makeshift pens. They are then processed and placed into small holding areas with no shelter for the rest of their lives. Their are 11,000 wild horses slated to be rounded up in 2011. Please help stop this.
Horse are the only wild animal that are managed in this fashion. Currently their are under 20,000 horses living in the wild and over 45,000 horses living in government ran holding areas. These programs are costing the US tax payers up to 80 Million dollars a year. It is not that the land can’t support, feed or water the animals. It is that the horses are competing with the cattle industry for grazing and water rights….. the cattle are winning!

THE WALKER LAKE HERD

ARM and Respect 4 Horses started a campaign four months age to save a Herd of untouched wild mustangs in Nevada. We have named then the “Walker Lake Herd”. The BLM had the herd scheduled for removal at the end of November 2010. As of November 3, 2010 their round up has been called off do to our work. The herd is now safe. This is the first time in US history that a wild horse round up has been called off by the BLM! Please watch the following clip as to what we as American’s almost lost.

BIO ON THE FOUNDER OF ARM

Founder of ARM - Richard "Kudo" Couto

Richard “Kudo” Couto was raised in Newport, Rhode Island before moving to South Florida in 1999. After joining the SPCA in 2007 as a volunteer he soon after was elected to the Board of Directors. While a board member with the SPCA Kudo spearheaded and exposed the world to the illegal horse slaughter issue. After Kudo and the SPCA were confronted with threts from high ranking politions in Miami and death threats by the butchers themselves Kudo stepped away from the organization to protect the people and animals within the organization. Kudo then founded ARM and has exposed Miami’s illegal slaughter farms, animal sacrifice farms and animal fighting farms for the world to see. ARM is now the primary group investigating the illegal slaughter industries. His obsession started 19 months ago when he and the SPCA raided an illegal slaughter farm in Miami, Fl. Upon leaving they seized a thoroughbred colt named Freedom’s Flight that Kudo soon after adopted. This fight is about redemption and revenge for what his pet went through in the farms….After seeing the conditions of the other animals on the farms Kudo then set out to shutdown the industry. Kudo is now Investigating the Department of the Interior of the United States in connection with the illegal wild horse round ups, abuse at our American horse tracks and the  Fox and Coyote penning games.

As of November, 2010 their have been north of 80 illegal Farms shutdown forever, over 17 cockfighting rings, dog fighting rings and hog dog rodeos operations closed.  The fight continues still with over 150 farms left to close.

I feel enlightened by your report.I had no idea that this was so huge in Florida.I live in CT and share your passion for horses, haveing now 2 rescues of my own.Until I adopted my first horse from a rescue 2 years ago,I have to say I was completely unaware of horse slaughter at all.It is so good that you are getting the information out to the people because I find that people really dont know whats going on.Keep up the good work!!!

    Richard,

The work you are doing is great and I’m thankful for your efforts. We need more people like you and Im happy to see your hard work and persistence is getting national news. We need to close these illegal slaughter farms for good and I just wanted to let you know that your not alone. We’re all here for you.

    Hi,

I really like the work you are doing. Can you tell me if you are a registered 501.3c charity, and how we would verify your legitimacy? There was a plea recently for donations on a horse forum I frequent, and while there are many who support what you do, they want to make sure this isn’t a scam.

Does the Miami police dept or any animal services/code enforcement agency currently help with raids?

Question is why would someone starve an animal when they make money off a meaty carcass. The horse on your u tube video (the skinny TB) certainly wouldn’t bring anything when it was pure bones ?
What is Dade County PSD & Broward PSD say/doing ? Where are the TV Animal Cops during all this ? I received an email asking for rescues to take in rescued horses fromm you next raid…is this what you need ? I as with L. McDaniel I am trying to find out about the legitimacy of your organization and would like to help if it all checks out.

    • Susan NY March 22, 2010 at 12:16 pm #

      Ronnie,

It’s common practice for these places to starve horses because of the cultural belief.

Their customers think “lean” horse meat is better, and pay more per pound for it. What they are getting in addition – drugs banned from the food supply. Drugs that cause cancer, spontaneous miscarriage in women and fatal anemia.

Bottom line – horse slaughter is always about the money. The sellers don’t care about the animals and they don’t care about their customers.

It survives by staying below the radar screen, public apathy, and lacksadaisical law enforcement.

We need to pass the Federal ban – HR.503-S.727 – The Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act this year. This will ban all horse slaughter and transport in the US, period. The law will bump horse slaughter up to a Federal law enforcement issue.

The public needs to remind local law enforcement – and the elected officials who hold the purse strings, at the voting booth – we are PAYING them to pay attention to these brutal violations of state and federal laws, horse thieving, and the poisoning of people with a food product that is not safe.

Jessica, do you understand what this site and organization is all about??

          • Michelle May 3, 2011 at 10:47 pm #

Could you please remove Jessica’s comments, they are unhelpful and the grammer is horrible. I assume that she is unaware of what your organization is truly about.

Thank you and everyone within ARMS for all of your hard work and efforts! Thank you for being the voice for those who do not have one!

        • Christina November 20, 2011 at 9:31 pm #

Jessica you just seriously put your foot in your mouth, educate yourself in every sense of the word! This man is going up against those who believe that horse slaughter is a humane way of dealing with the over population of horses resulting for massive horse breeders, he’s going up against ILLEGAL butchers that torture these beautiful creatures before finally murdering them. He’s grown a pair and DOING something about it, what are you doing to make a difference, to take a STANCE against wrongs being committed against the innocent that can’t fight for themselves, to speak up about what they’re going through? Why don’t you volunteer at a local equine rescue and start there, helping a horse recover from the abuse is a step in the right direction.

      • Christina November 20, 2011 at 9:24 pm #

        Susan well said!

  5. Erin Hughes February 24, 2010 at 6:42 pm #

What about FDA laws for food safety? They give organic farmers and local farmers a hard enough time.
This is outrageous ! Why doesnt the FDA get involved.
Thank you for all that you are doing.
If you come across any rabbits or horses that you can get out of there I can take them as rescue pets, by the way. I am a veterinary student.

Kudo How large is your organization? Do you work alone or do you have many people that help you? Reading your Bio, you talk about yourself, but fail to mention any of your group. We would like to know about them as well. Thanks

  7. Sylvia June 15, 2010 at 8:04 pm #

Thank you, Richard, for all your efforts. I work in Hialeah Gardens close to the C9 basin and I see the horses out there and just pray for their safety. I’m a SFTR, and a horse owner. We will come together to do everything we can to network and get the awareness out there to help you make your point.

I bought a horse for $150 from a very predominant Paso Fino breeder a long time ago, just to get him off his neglectful hands. I loved him for 8 years. That horse taught me how to really ride. He was so greateful and it was one of the most rewarding things I’ve done.

Keep up the great work and be careful out there. If you need backup, call on the SFTR’s, we’re all here for you and appreciate everything you do. Good luck with Freedom’s Flight, he’s beautiful!!

I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night if I had to worry about my horse getting slaughtered! And on my propery? I hope people are able to take back control so they don’t have to live in fear. My place would be decked out with motion lights, alarms, big barking guard dogs and me with a shotgun and a pistol ready to take down, and I mean kill, anyone that even thought about coming onto my property or hurting one of my pets. Simple as that. Thank-you for bringing attention to this problem.

I had no idea these slaughter houses happened in the USA. After watching on MTV on the world of Jenks it opened up my eyes that things like this happen everywhere in the world even other things we are unaware of. I would really want to volunteer but I live in Houston, Tx and I’m going to look for something similar to volunteer for.

I watched MTV’s “The World of Jenks” last night and found out, for the first time, that there people are operating illegal slaughterhouses in Miami. I am grateful for all the hard work that ARM and the SPCA is doing to help innocent animals like horses, pigs, and dogs. I will spread the word to family and friends and hope that soon the world hears about this type of cruelty that occurs in Miami,Florida. Keep up the great work!!!

You work is very much appreciated by many people and especially by the animals you work so hard to save. I just want to say THANK YOU, because the animals cannot. You are a great man and I hope you will be rewarded for your efforts.

    God Bless.

I have recently started to tape The World of Jenks on MTV because I enjoy the rawness of his work. I, myself am also a huge advocate for animals (pit bulls and horses especially). I was brutally shocked when I saw the preview for Monday nites show… I knew that this existed, but not to the extent that it does. All I can say is your work is amazing and heartfelt, and I am glad that these animals have such a strong advocate for their well being. :)

I too am a horse owner/ lover. And I too did not know this was going on. I am 25 and watched (or tried to, turned it off after about 3 mins because I couldn’t watch) World of Jenks on Moday night on MTV. I had to turn the episode off but could not stop thinking about it. So today I decided to do some research. I could not believe what I found! This can not be happening in America! The people (if you can call them that) are MONSTERS that are slaughtering these horses and other animals in the C-9 Basin. I have emailed every district official I found online to request harsher punishment and for horse meat sale to be made illegal and I suggest everyone else do so if they can. Make your voice heard. I just hope this ends sooner than later. Thank you Richard, you are a saint!!

  30. ashley October 6, 2010 at 7:01 pm #

Words cannot express how grateful I am that someone like you exists to fight these pathetic people. I have started spreading the word in Canada so more people know what is going on. THANK YOU. If you ever need volunteers let me know.

  31. Elizabeth Seward October 7, 2010 at 4:04 am #

    Richard,
I am outraged and so sad to learn of this heartless slaughtering taking place in our country! We are supposed to help all living creatures who can not defend theirselves. I would like to become involved in your organization, and get this out to every one. Just getting this on Facebook and having everyone even donate $1.00 would enable you to have more volunteers, advertisement, website, and bring more awareness to all of the descent citizens that i would like to believe out number these savages! Reading all of these responses I think we all agree that we also need to step up to the plate and follow your example. So please let me know what we can do that would best fit your needs at this time. I am grateful for your courage and drive to remove these SAVAGES from out society.

  33. Megan October 8, 2010 at 8:32 pm #

I was surprised to read the blurb on Brogan here, saying that she did not contribute to the farm closures, that she only worked with your organization for a short time and was not regularly “out in the field”. The World of Jenks program portrayed her as being much more involved than that.

That said, I found the program and various articles I’ve read online (http://www.miaminewtimes.com/2010-05-13/news/yuppie-rambo-richard-kudo-couto-takes-on-the-c-9-basin-miami-dade-s-most-lawless-outpost/) to be very eye-opening and I applaud your organization for the work that you’re doing.

I would suggest though that you take the time to proofread this website and perhaps hire a copywriter or PR person to help your organization put its best foot forward. I think it’s essential to present yourselves as professionally as possible if you want potential donors and law enforcement/government organizations to view you as a legitimate organization. The typos and generally haphazard presentation of this website undercut your mission in my opinion.

  34. Emily October 9, 2010 at 5:36 pm #

I watched the World of Jenks episode with Brogan and it really touched me. I was previously oblivious to these slaughterhouses in Miami and it motivates me to do something about it. Your work is so admirable, keep it up!

  35. Maureen October 9, 2010 at 10:12 pm #

I, too, just watched World of Jenks and am awestruck at the cruelty these people possess. I own a horse, and am in school to hopefully become an equine vet and was very affected by this episode. I will do my best to get the word out about your organization and get donations for you guys. Thank you for staying strong and not giving up. God bless, you are in my prayers.

  36. Sara October 10, 2010 at 1:50 pm #

The work your doing is unbelievable. Thank you so much for devoting your time and effort to these innocent animals. There is something to be said for that. Please do not give up. You are making a difference and you opened my eyes along with many others to something i didn’t even know existed and i live right near this area.

I am a horse lover as well. Although I can’t own one currently (I’m 13 and its really expensive) I still can’t wait until the day that I can have my own. I currently ride every weekend and I can’t imagine hurting one of the precious souls that I love. It makes me sick to think of the horrible people who do. I had no idea how bad horse slaughtering was until I read the book “The inside of a horse” and staying true to my past and current dream, I want to be a horse vet when I’m older. I think the public needs to more educated because I know for a fact that not many people I know have a clue about this. I can’t wait until I can have a “lemon-AID” stand in the summer and educate the public as well.
    Thanks so much
    Natalie

I echo Mary in English – Richard gave an answer to many of the whys in these responses. “well-connected mafia” – epitome of corruption, no?:

CONGRATULATIONS FOR THE FIGHT. Power and money corrupt men, other living beings do not deserve this.
DOWN TO ALL TYPE OF OPPRESSION AND CRUELTY TO ANIMALS.

I’m 16 years old and I live in Florida. I had no idea that this was so prominent here. If anyone could recommend any organizations that I could help out with, it would be much appreciated! Just email me at…

  44. Jenny October 21, 2010 at 6:36 pm #

I just saw the ARM episode on MTV’s World of Jenks. I’ve been educating myself more about the situation in Miami and illegal slaughter houses and round ups. This is a cause I would be interested in donating to. The people who work for ARM are brave and influencial. They make me want to be right with them fighting for animal’s rights and rescue. So thank you for all you do.

Unbelievable….. I am so upset an sad. Please know your group is doing such important work. Thank you. You risk your lives and I really appreciate what you do for these helpless animals. I wish I could help.

  46. Meghann October 27, 2010 at 1:54 am #

I recently moved from Miami to Tallahassee for college, and after seeing the episode of this organization on MTV’s “World of Jenkins” I had to learn more about it. I think its horrible that there are things like this going on, and iIam astonished that I have lived in Miami my whole life, and I never knew that this was going on only 30 minutes away. Thank you so much for doing all you can. I will do my best to spread the word about this catastrophe happening, because I’m sure not many people in Miami know about. I’m actually doing a paper on your organization for my English class currently, and I am hoping to one day hopefully be a part of it when I return to Miami. Keep up the good work, and thanks again!

  47. Julie Price October 27, 2010 at 3:35 pm #

I didnt know of your work till today when I watched the episode on “World of Jenks”. Because I am from Canada I didnt know of your organization. I just have to say that what you are doing it truly amazing and I hope you are safe on all future ventures to find more farms… as sad as it is to know u will have to do more because people will not stop this senseless acts of animal cruelty. Know your are appreciated and greatly respected.

All the best and thank you for doing this incredible act of kindness

Yes, horses are beautiful and they feel fear and pain. We must do everything to stop their suffering. Let us not forget that all creatures feel fear and pain, even the ones we oh so casually eat; cows, pigs, and chickens.
Crows, humans have recently discovered, have been watching us for untold years and can recognize humans after only one close encounter. Furthermore they can then pass that information on to their children. Crows also mourn for their dead. Humans have only discovered a handful of species that can do this. If crows are this intelligent and sentitnet, perhaps we have underestimated other birds and animals as well.
We just don’t know what we don’t know. What I am certain of is factory farming is unsustainable, disgustingly cruel. It’s also responsible for one fifth of global warming as well as literal rivers of manure.
It is time we thought about bringing an end to our stupid and savage ways. If the Bonobos can do it, surely we can too.

  51. Donna November 12, 2010 at 7:11 am #

Robert, I saw a report on Insider edition and like most everyone else on here had NO idea this was going on. I’m hoping and praying for success for you in saving these horses and other animals. My uncle actually owned a decendent of secretriat too his name that I always knew was “Minor” but he has passed now but only from old age he lived a very long and wonderful life and sired many many babies. So thank you!! I can’t say it enough thank you thank you!!

  52. patty November 13, 2010 at 2:16 am #

i grew up around thoroughbreds and love them.
    wishing you god’s blessings.
    thank you for your efforts.

  53. Bonnie November 14, 2010 at 2:29 am #

I saw the report on Insider edition today, the same day I attend a fundraiser for a slaughter horse rescue in California called Hanaeleh. So sad that all this is for real, hard to believe. Also, we just recused/adopted a horse that was also one of secretriats off springs. He was in bad condition too, but doing well now. So sad these race horses give their heart & sole and people just throw them to the side like trash – so thanks for all that you do!!

  54. Laura December 1, 2010 at 1:08 pm #

i watched you guys on world of jenks and started crying. im almost 16 and have a retierd thoroughbred who also used to race. his like my kids hes amazing! its hard to imagine that people could do these harable things to such loving and amzing animals. thinking of him being sent to a farm like the ones you deal with every day is extreamly upsetting. one day id like to help anaimals as much as you all do. i wish there were more people as willing as you guys to help. thank you for saving not just horses but all animals.

  55. Ngaire January 10, 2011 at 3:30 pm #

It is horrific to see and hear of the cruel and barbaric treatment of these gorgeous creatures. Horse slaughter is the most horrific treatment to horses and I thank you with all my heart for bringing about the closure of these illegal farms. It breaks my heart when I see and read what is happening and knowing that there still is these horrible farms still active. I thank you again for the love and dedication that you do in saving the animals from these farms.

  56. Daniel martin January 14, 2011 at 11:12 am #

What they do to these gorgeous creatures is very wrong yes but that doesnt mean they will stop and if it wasnt for animal recovery mission none of this would be here and all of those farms will still be doing what thay do best and that is slaughter horses and so i thank you brogan and kudo and every one in animal recovery mission i mean i love horses i grew up with about 12 of them and i would give my life to keep them from being slaughtered or being put in one of these farms so again i say thanks to every one in arm and iam about 16 i play football and if you ever need some help hit me up i would love to be apart of arm even though you guys dont get paid for what you do i would still love to be apart of what you guys do!!

    Your work inspires me.
I know that this is something i want to do, i would do anything to help put a stop to animal cruelty, i don’t understand how people could even consider hurting these beautiful creatures.
Your organisation is helping these animals in so many different ways.
    Thankyou so much.
If there is anything at all i could do to help, please let me know.

  63. Jennifer April 29, 2011 at 1:36 pm #

I am sickened and horrified by the photos I have seen on your website. The story of the foal trying to nurse off the burnt carcass of his mother will probably haunt me for the rest of my life. I currently own 2 thoroghbreds out in California, and I don’t just view them as investments or a business. I love them and view them as pets. Today one of our former horses that was claimed from us last Summer is running at Calder. He is 8 years old now but in his day he was a warrior. I pray that this is not the fate he will suffer. I just don’t know what I can do to prevent it.

  64. Mark May 5, 2011 at 2:15 pm #

I saw the E60 show on ESPN about “Freedom Flight” rescued by Robert Cudo (hope name is correct).

I cannot believe there are people in America that would steal a horse (someone pet) walk it down the road, cut her throat (not fatal) and cut off her front legs while she screams in pain.

Bless Cudo for his hard work and helping catch these criminals. I cannot sit by and allow this to continue. I am in Orlando and this is happening in Miami.

Somehow, I will come up with ideas and funding to get this organization more exposure. Cudo will tell me which direction he wishes to go.

  65. Daniel Carron May 7, 2011 at 9:33 am #

I just watched a great piece on ESPN about you and your organization. Keep up the amazing work!!

  66. Patricia May 11, 2011 at 1:25 am #

    Kudo,
You are doing fantastic work. I thank you. But I also must tell you I have worked with thoroughbred race horses for almost 20 years. I do physical therapy on them. There are a few bad people in our business who do neglect and abuse these beautiful animals, but it wrong to think that all do. I would say it is an overwhelming majority who love and care for their horses better than most people. Every trainer I have worked for has always found homes for their retired horses, and done everything possible for them when they are sick or injured. Please do not alienate the horse lovers who work in the horse industry, because of the evil few who work amongst us. To say none of us care, is wrong. Race horses get treated better then most pleasure horses. Statistics show that it is pleasure horses which make up the vast majority of horses which go to slaughter. The racing industry has numerous charitable organizations which take care of their own. Sadly some do slip through at the hands of idiots who call themselves trainers. Please change the blanket negative statement about racehorse people, as it is untrue. I am one, and I support you, and I too own a rescued thoroughbred. Thank you.

I found out about you when I was watching the news this morning! I have owned and loved horse’s my whole life, and it is my life dream to be involved in saving horse’s someday. Like you do. I only wish you were closer to where I live. I live in TN. Keep up the good work and thanks again for everything you, and your team have done to help the horse’s and other abused/murdered animals!

I believe that more stringent laws should be passed (globally) when it comes to cruelty to animals. There are no harsh penalties in place and offences are punishable by a “slap on the wrist”. Owning an animal is a priviledge – not a right. Harder penalties, stricker laws – perhaps then we’ll begin to see a decline in animal cruelty.

  69. JoAnna June 7, 2011 at 1:37 pm #

When are you going to open a chapter here in California?
I have two rescues, One QH and one TB mare that was used as a mexican rodeo tripping horse.
This horse slaughter business has no place in the US. We cannot change the world; but at least we can make it very uncomfortable for those immigrants that practice their vile and disgusting habits here on US soil.
    thanks for all you do.

  70. Lainie G June 30, 2011 at 11:21 am #

Thanks for all you do to help these animals that are suffering in the most deplorable conditions. I have always been against horse slaughter and this only serves to strengthen my commitment to speaking out against it whenever possible. I find it hard to believe that anyone who is a horse owner still supports it but there are some. Hopefully they will change their minds if your videos become mroe widely seen. Just bought another t-shirt to help you out. Wish I could send more but I have 5 horses of my own to feed, one of which is a mustang I rescued from a crackhead who had him chained to a tree behind a junkyard in a ghetto. Great place for any horse….NOT!

  71. G July 13, 2011 at 8:45 am #

To all who commented above – another way to help, as well as contributions to ARM, is to read about & support the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act. To read about it, go to http://www.awionline.org , which describes it and allows you to support it by contacting your congressman.

  72. JoCee August 29, 2011 at 11:12 pm #

I am so, so, thankful you are bringing this uncomprehensible torture and killing of these horses and innocent animals out in the open. The pictures make me so sick to my stomach and sad but also make me want to fight back along with you!! You have all my support and the support of everyone that I can reach and help make more aware of what is happening to these innocent animals. You are truly amazing and such an inspiration!!

  73. Angie Morgan November 17, 2011 at 6:09 pm #

I just discovered your org. Thank you for what you are doing. I run a dog rescue in IN. What’s happening is horrible but people should be aware that it’s not much different than what happens to cow, chickens, turkey and pigs every day! But somehow that is acceptable to people. I don’t understand it. We don’t need animal flesh to survive. But the animals sure need their flesh! Keep up the good work. I wish I was closer and could help. I pray you jail the butchers AND the consumers as well.

  74. lee adams November 24, 2011 at 12:14 am #

Richard im sure your very busy, but could you give us an update on what your doing its been awhile since youve had some videos out there, i look almost every day. keep us informed. i truly love what your doing. and now its very risky. your a great man thanks so much. lee

Thank you for your recent work investigating the Acosta slaughter farm. What an absolute hell hole!

  76. William Souther December 6, 2011 at 1:41 pm #

Richard: The recent news that the government has lifted the ban on the slaughter of horses within the US borders has been shocked. I was looking on your site to see what kind of response you may have had, but don’t see anything. Maybe its because you’re still in shock? What horrible news that was when I saw it. I don’t know what this country is becoming. Now what??

  77. Autumn January 17, 2012 at 11:41 pm #

I know you get a lot of these posts on here, but I am so thankful to know that there is yet another person with a soul in this messed up world to know right from wrong and to take a stand against animal cruelty and giving 150% of your attention to this matter. It pleases me to know that there are others, such as yourself, that will step up for the animals that are defenseless against monsters, slaughterhouses and torture. Thank you so much for taking the time and money to invest in a matter as serious as this! I hope you gather as many supporters as you possible can to put a stop to this, or at least to help you try.. I know animal cruelty will never be gone for good, but I believe with more people like you, we can stop most of it.
    –Thank you,
    Autumn
