In June of 2022, ARM undercover investigators entered A-Poultry, a USDA-certified animal slaughterhouse located in Orlando (Florida), and documented animal cruelty and gross violations of the Humane Slaughter ACT of the United States.
A-Poultry advertises and caters to butchering animals for human consumption, including; sheep, goats, cows, rabbits, guinea pigs, ducks, and chickens.
The animals on site are all contained in overcrowded enclosures on the property, where they are selected by customers/employees, butchered and then sold for human consumption.
During its investigation, ARM witnessed and documented countless crimes against animals, including, but not limited to:
- Animals are not stunned by an appropriate device or rendered unconscious and insensible to pain, prior to the slaughter process, per the Humane Slaughter ACT.
- Animals are inhumanely handled and dragged and subjected to excessive force.
- Animals are slaughtered with improper techniques, causing unconscionable pain and suffering.
- Goats and Sheep have their throats slit with knives, slicing multiple times while the animal is alive and conscious, cutting through the windpipe.
- Animals live in deplorable, overcrowded conditions with multiple species in the same area.
- Live animals sold
- False advertising/misleading to the public.
- Meats sold without a known destination.
This investigation’s findings produced two felony acts of animal cruelty resulting in death, and 27 documented misdemeanor acts of animal cruelty.
These crimes and information were compiled into a detailed report and submitted to the Orange County Sherriff’s Office and the USDA’s FSIS division for further investigation with ARM’s request for arrests, animal rescues, and accountability of oversight from USDA governing agencies.
