On December 21st, 2020, Animal Recovery Mission (ARM) released a gruesome investigation after infiltrating onto the killing floor of one of the most notorious animal slaughterhouses in Florida – Mary’s Matador Cabrera Slaughterhouse.
This USDA federal slaughter facility has sparked controversy for many years amongst local advocates regarding the horrors of the treatment of live animals, including; cows, goats, sheep, pigs, ducks, and chickens.
Mary’s Ranch Matador Cabrera stations USDA inspectors and federal veterinarians on-sight to oversee, mandate, and regulate the treatment of animals during the selling, food safety, and butchering of live animals for human consumption.
In 43 years of operating, neither the facility nor the owner and operator, Rodolfo Cabrera, have yet to receive one violation from the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Services (FSIS).
However, within just a few days of being undercover, ARM captured shocking and incriminating evidence of gross misconduct, food and public safety issues, the selling of unadulterated meat, and major animal cruelty crimes in clear violation of the Humane Slaughter ACT.
Cows suffered excruciating, drawn-out deaths from un-trained workers using improper techniques with captive bolt guns. ARM documented multiple occasions, cows withstanding 6-7 attempts before the animal fell to the ground. They are then stabbed to death without the use of stunning methods prior to butchering.
